have a early model 94 in 44magnum that has a annoying tendency to jam the lever.
lever starts to open then jams. after multiple tries it will then open and work properly for a period then jam again. doesnt matter if cartridges in mag tube or not. please any suggestions to remedy

I don’t know anything about the top eject 44 Magnums but if it is an angle eject model take a look at the lever as it passes through the lifter. There should be a little brass spring used to help keep the cartridge aligned on the lifter. This little spring may be bent and interfering with the lever.
If this is the case be very careful straightening the spring as you cannot buy it from Winchester.
Take a look as you move the lever slowly, you must hunt for the spring to see it.

it is a top eject fitted with scope mount serial no. 4460658. the problem feels as if something is moving and blocking the action have inspected best i can without full strip down and can see nothing that may be causing problem

Where is the scope mounted - side of receiver or forward on the barrel?

If on the receiver, could have a mount screw interfering with operations.

I would check that the pin connecting the lever to the bolt hasn't partially backed out of the bolt, catching on the edge of the hole, where the large plug screw that is supposed to keep that from happening should be fully seated.

The plug screw may not be all the way "in", or gone walkabout.

The loading gate may be loose. There is a screw to the rear of the loading port about 1 1/4", just tighten.
