ok i am looking to build a rifle for long distance shooting. i have built up a 22-250 for varnment hunting and found i want something betterfor shooting targets at distances of a max of 1000 yards. now i have read alt of forms, this will be a intro type gun just to see if i really catch the bug or not but i want to do it right. everything i have read says to get a cheaper 700 and build from there. most say startbwith a sps and go from there. i can get a brand new ADL varnment with 26" barrel in .308 for $350. if im going ro change the stock, and probably the barrel is there any reason not to start with the ADL? any reason the sps would be worth the extra money?

I started with a ADL 700 in 308. It has a better trigger than the SPS. But I also bought a SPS 700 in 300 RUM, and that is good also, but might not have as good a trigger and will have the new safety.

On mine, I went with a a Choate Ultimate Sniper stock (John Plaster), added a NF mount and 30 mm Leupold scope, Barrel is Lilja.

Just my practice, I usually fill the box magazine in with Brownell's stock bedding compound, and add a single feed follower. The sucker is heavy! Still working on loads; aas hunting season is here now.

iv got the choate stock for may 22-250. i like it bit ya its heavy. i am thinking about a aics with the 308 or something similar.
