Monarch Ammo????

Registered Users do not see the above ad.

I bought two 50 round boxes of Monarch ammo. at Academy. One box of 9mm and one box of 40 caliber. The 9mm was actually cheaper at $5.86 per box as compared to $12.88 for a wwb of 100. The 40 caliber was actually a little higher than the WWB. The WWB prices are Wal Mart prices.
Anyone know anything about Monarch? I think it is made by CCI.

According to the AR15 site, Monarch is made for Acadamy by Branaul and Prvi Partizan, which I've never heard of. Believe at one time (1950's), Federal used to produce a line of .22 rf ammo under the name of Monarch.

Marshal, can't remember about the .22s, but I still have a couple of boxes of Federal Monarch .38 wadcutters on the shelf from the 60's bought at a GAS station on the way to a hunt.

I'm not familiar with Monarch, but Prvi Partizan, in Sebia, makes the reloadable ammo for Wolf. I haven't tried any of that stuff either.

Blackhawk,
You're absolutely right about Federal Monarch center-fire handgun cartridges. Gee, that was so long ago. As I recall, the end of the box is cut on three sides and you have to fold it back back before you can slide the inner box out to get at the cartridges. The end of the box was not the standard flap that is used by everyone today? I shot a lot of the Monarch rimfire which was heavily greased in smallbore 4 position competition in those days. Federal dropped the Monarch line and now it's reappeared under different manufacturers. Talk about deja vu!

You are correct. Have fired many round of the Monarch rimfire. It was quite common back in the '50s and '60s.

Brain teaser- (since I can't remember) What were the house names of the .22 shells sold by Montgomery Ward (blue & white box) and Western Auto (gold foil box) in the '60's?
