Rossi 357 Mag

I justed bought my first handgun a rossi 357 mag 6'' barrel , stainless steel, and i was wanting to try hunting deer with it in the fall. i would like to put a scope on it but everybody's telling me i would have to get it drilled. long story short it took it to the local gunsmith who was an *** said u can't hunt with it (too small of a gun) which i know it's not the most powerful handgun, but it will kill a deer wth in 50 yrds. so has any body out there ever killed a deer w/ a 357 and perhaps you could share your info on what kind of ammo you used and did you have a scope. Im proud of a gun and hated the fact that someone was talking **** on it.

Could he have meant that the .357 isn't a legal caliber in your state?

There have been 2 or 3 recent threads where at least one person has talked about using the .357 on deer. If it's legal, try it and have fun.

I say if you are comfortable with the pistol and can make a clean kill at 50 yards then you should go for it.

If you do not have anyone local to install a scope base on your handgun, then maybe I can help. Send me a PM...

I have killed quite a few with .357 revolvers with 4 or 6" barrels, iron sights only. I handgun hunt like I used to bow hunt -- up close. Get within 50 yards and learn how to place your shots and you'll do fine. I've used 158 gr. JHP ammo with good success.
