Kind of a two parter here.
I started a post a while back about a 230 gr JHP SD round vs a 255 gr SWC to carry for deer and hogs as a backup/perfect opportunity gun. I was curious as to the kind of damage a hardcast SWC will do to a deer. The meplat is quite large on the 255 gr, about .30+. It's for a .45 Colt/.454 Casull but DoubleTap loads it in the .45 ACP.
Second is the other thing slowing my decision down is the sharp angles of a SWC feeding in a 1911. My ramp is as smooth as glass and has eaten all the 230 gr round noses I've fed her. I just bought 200 more rounds to finish the break in period then I will get a few boxes of SD JHPs, but as you may know, even some JHPs can be finicky to feed in a 1911 as well.
Basically DoubleTap sells a box of 50 255 gr +P SWCs for $43 + shipping or 100 of the projectiles for $20 + shipping. I'm not reloading just yet but will in the future. I hate to pay $1 each for the loaded ammo and not have them cycle in my gun. My other alternative is to get a good SD load, I'll likely go with Speer Gold Dot 230 gr JHPs since they're bonded and have a great track record.
Interested to hear any and all opinions...
