Wondering About A New Revolver

If you've seen my previous post on here you'll know where I'm going with this. I trying to find a revolver around $600 or so and is chambered in .38 Spec. or .357 Mag. so I can use it for competition and maybe hunting. I don't really care who it's made by or what it's made of, it just needs to be reliable, accurate, and be able to mount an optical sight (such as a red dot). If ya'll have any suggestions then please do tell.

No guys, I'm sorry I wasn't specific enough. I mean a double action revolver.

Even though you say double action I still say Ruger Blackhawk and knock $200 off your budget. If you reload I would recommend a 45 colt 44 or 41 mag i am a big fan of the 45 colt.. I bought a 357 when I was about your age and wish I had gone for a little more girth in my bullet. If you do drop some cash on one please tell us about it

Sorry GunNut, you asked for a good sports car and some guys just have to reply with pickup trucks.

S&W, Colt, and Ruger all make excellent guns you could buy without any reservations at all. Most Taurus guns are good but a few have had problems. Rossi falls a bit lower on my scale but they sell for enough less that you could make up the difference in price with a trip to a good revolversmith.

If it were me, I'd look for a good used S&W or Ruger. New springs are almost as good as an action job on these guns, and either one will last you forever.

S&W model 10 or 15

I got a S&W model 15 (38 spl) that I use in action pistol and bullseye. Cost was $300.

I have a Blackhawk that I use for sillouette and hunting

I agree with Rocky. I Have bought several high quality used Smith and Wessons for under $400 dollars off Gunbroker.

Thanks guys and yeah I probably won't be buying another gun at least for another year (I don't have the money to afford one as of now). Don't worry though I'll post some pics of it when I get it.

Check into police tradeins. My 38 4" S&W (64-3) cost under $200.00 (wish I had got a couple more now) and is a good starting point. Gun shoots good and is tight so check them out.

I will tell you that the Ruger, Smith & Wesson or Colt are fine revolvers. My father once told me and so did Bill Jordan, if your going to bet your life on a pistol, make it a wheel gun by Smith & Wesson or Colt.

Now when you start getting into competiton pistols you going to realize there is NO such thing is a $600 dollar pistol that your going to walk away with medals with in this life time. The gunsmith work will most likely cost you that much in tuning etc.
