Kudos to Hornady - NOT!!!!!

READ BELOW THE DOTTED LINE

I recently purchased a Lock-N-Load conversion kit from Midway USA for my second Redding Ultramag press. I have the first one outfitted the same way.

Anyway, the kit comes with the conversion insert that screws into the press after removing the 1-1/4 x 12 to 7/8 x14 thread adapter. The Hornady insert assembly allows use of the dies outfitted with their die bushings. The one that came with the kit wouldn't screw into either press, the threads aren't cut deep enough. I contacted Midway and they gave me the Hornady service nubmer.

Doug at Hornady put one in the mail that same day and asked that I hold onto the one I purchased until the new one arrived. It shoud be here Monday. I lost a few days in the process but it appears Hornady is doing what it takes to make things right.

If you are considering this conversion I would highly recommend it. It's a pain in the butt that you have to get a conversion bushing for each die but once you do one die you will want to do them all. It makes changing dies super easy and is absolutely repeatable.

November 16 Update

PROBLEM NOT RESOLVED

They sent me a replacement part that doesn't work. Now I hae two parts that don't work.

I measured the two bushing adapters that didn't work against the one that does and they both measure about .004" bigger in the thread groove. The threads themselves are blunt, not sharp - on both parts that don't fit. I also bought a bolt and threaded it into my press without a problem, that was all I could do to besides scrrewing the part that works into both presses to verify the press was not the problem. I sent them back to Hornady with a letter of explanation.

They sent both adapters back to me with a letter that essentially said - go pound sand, we're not going to do anything about this, the problem must be your press.

Do you think it odd that I have more confidence in my multi-hundred dollar precision press than I do the $8, pot-metal, low-quality, part.

Hornady just lost a customer - forever. All those nice things I said above, I TAKE IT ALL BACK! I WILL NEVER RECOMMEND HORNADY FOR ANYTHING. IF YOU HAVE THEIR STUFF MELT IT DOWN AND MAKE A BOAT ANCHOR. YOU'LL GET BETTER UTILITY FROM IT.

Now I have two parts that don't work. Wait, I already said that.
