Thumbs up Fire Lapping Queries

Hi ya
I'm after some info on fire lapping,I've got two rifles I want to do,1 is a Rossi mod 92 .44mag an the other is a Ruger#3 45/70.
I've emailed Veral Smith & Marshall Stanton and Beartooth Bullets about 3days ago,no reply, probably because I'm from Australia and might not send to here,I don't know.

What I want to know is can I use plain valve grinding paste?

If I buy my own Aluminum oxide what grit do I start off with and finish with?

What bullets do I use jacketed or cast?I cast my own bullets as well.

Is there another grinding compound I should use instead of Aluminum oxide?

How many rounds do I fire to lap the barrel? I did ask Beartooth bullets about buying and sending Marshalls book & the fire lapping compound here to the land of oz,but no reply.

Do the bullets,if made of lead,do they have to be oversize?,if so.how much? and how hard should the bullet be?

I have seen the posts here in shootersforum about fire lapping, but I need the whole process,if someone would take the time to post it or email it that would be great.

Any help from anyone concerning this topic that can help me get it done right would be appreciated
Regards
Dale (no3)

Dale Midway has a fire lapping kit that comes with three grades of lapping compound. I used this to lap out my Rossi 45 Colt.

Don't take this wrong.
But if you buy the book Marshall has for sale it will answer all those questions and alot more,
"Beartooth Bullets Technical Guide"
I orderd one a short time ago and read it cover to cover. It is a very good book and well worth the cost. 14.00 US post paid ( I 'm guessing you would have added postage) but it is still worth the price. He give a lot of money saving tips also..

Go to the home page here on the board. Click on "Tech Notes" on the left side of the screen and scroll down to several firelapping articles.

If you send Marshall a PM (Private Message, not Prime Minister!) he may respond a little faster. Things are busy at Beartooth Bullets and it may take him a while to answer.

Down in the "Gunsmithing" forum, there are several threads on firelapping, also.

320 is what Beartooth's is, but like above, there is a lot more too it than that. Read Marshall's book. You will learn a lot.

Dale,

Recheck your email box! I delayed getting back to you, as I wanted to make sure of the exact dollar amount freight would be to ship to the land of oz! It's not that bad either!

Too, your other questions are answered in the email as well! Thanks so much!

God Bless,

Thanks for the link to midwayusa,I went and had a look at what they have, wow they have some stuff don't they,I felt like a kid in a toy shop all these fun things to play with.

Sadly they say they are not taking international orders and this is what they say

No - MidwayUSA.com is not set up to accept international addresses. Orders with incorrect international addresses (for example, the foreign country is listed in the ‘City’ or ‘State’ field) will be cancelled.
Bummer
But thanks any way mate
