Question .38 Special Roll or Taper Crimp?

Just got a box of 500 Rainier 148gr. DEWC bullets to try out. The loading data I've read so far says to trim the cases to 1.135 and seat to a C.O.L. of 1.175, leaving .040 of bullet sticking out. With that configuration, should I do a taper crimp or go out and buy a roll crimp seating die?

Go ahead and taper crimp it...I've been using only taper crimps with WC ammo for a number of years, and believe it to be less deforming to the bullet at the low pressures WC ammo is usually shot.

Don't need a lot of crimp...just enough to keep the bullets in place while the gun recoils...monster crimps do not help accuracy with WC ammo.

So long as you don't have chambering difficutlity with that .04" of bullet sticking out of the case, should be fine with that OAL...if you do, seat it flush.

Taper crimp is fine for a revolver, but I find the roll crimp to feed better in my Model 52 S&W. I also find the flush seating to work better in the Model 52 than the .040 in sticking out of the case.
