Do a search for Webley in the Handgun Cartridges and in the Handgun forums. The search bar is near the top of this page. There's several threads there on Webleys. A few forums members reload the .455 and may be able to help you.

I understand those hollow base bullets are a bit tricky to pour. You give try asking for advice in the Cast Bullet forum about that.

Bye
Jack

nice to have three guns in 455 I reload for my Webley, but the mold I have throws a 310 grain bullet so my info wouldn't help you much. What mold do you have that makes the 265 grain bullet and does it pour from the base or the tip?
I origionally started working from the loads that came with my Lee dies and actually had to reduce them to get the gun to shoot to the sights at 20 yards.
Moderators is it ok to post these loads?
Kim

In the August 2004 issue of Shooting Times, Mike Venturino has an article about the 455. For an RCBS 265 grain RN bullet, he lists 3.5 grains of Bullseye powder for 618 fps muzzle velocity. Also, I have a 1992 Hercules powder guide that lists maximum loads for a 265 grain bullet as 3.8 grains of Bullseye, 3.4 of Red Dot, 3.6 of Green Dot, 4.3 of Unique, 4.9 of Herco, and 6.8 of Blue Dot, with velocities varying between 685 to 770 fps.

Been a good long time, but Ken Waters (Handloader) did do a "pet Loads" article on the .455. His best results were with the faster powders. While he didn't have your exact bullet, the 263gr. Ohaus (which was just a 255Keith cast soft to reach that weight) should be close:
Bullseye: 4.5gr. -5.0gr.
700X: 4.7 - 5.0gr.
231: 5.5 - 6.2gr.
Unique: 6.0 - 6.5gr.
800X: 6.5 -7.0gr.

The only time I loaded .455, used converted cases (these were converted by lathing the rims of .45AR simply becasue I had a bunch of AR cases and few .45LC cases) and I doubt my case volues were as large as factory brass...so my vel. were a bit higer for a given charges. BAck then, settled on 6.0gr. (about 700fps) of Unique becasue it shot to the point of aim of the old Webley (using the factory swaged lead 255gr. RNL...has a bit of a hollow base which helped).

As for posting loads, Beartooth is not responsible for what members post, same as what's in the agreement to join LoadSwap.
http://www.loadswap.com/login.php

It's best to reference a load when you can, like rt and ribbonstone did. That's not always possible for the wildcats and old ones.

Anyone using data found here should cross-reference it if possible and work up carefully.

If you see a load posted that you know is out of bounds, post a warning.

Bye
Jack

Looking over an old notebook form that time: pay strict attention of OAL...there is very little powder space, and it gets touchy if crowded. These are older guns, originaly made for a low stress round...nothing you can do is going to make it into a magnum, so enjoy it for what it is: that British sense of a big heavy bullet ambling along at about 650-700fps.

I'd start low..lower than the quoted loads (indlcuding mine) and move cautiously up in small steps..feeling free to stop any place along the way where accuracy is good and the bullets land somewhat close to the fixed sights.

Thank you for responding. I have a RCBS mold, Part No. 55005. I bought it several years ago, but only used it once. The mold loads from the tip. I am not certain, but my dealer lead me to believe that this mold was "custom" made???
I have LEE reloading dies in 455 (and the charge tables), but I was hoping to get pointers from reloaders with far more experience than I.

Thanks, Pete

Thanks for the information. I was lucky enough to find 300 Dominion brass (new, unfired) at a gun show. I appreciate your load info and hope to put up some rounds in the next week or two.

Thanks, Pete
