My second favorite caliber!
I'm still in the load development stage so I don't have a favorite yet but I am using exclusively Swift Scirroco 2 bullets, both 165's and 180's. I feel these are the only lead core bullet that can hold up to 300 RUM velcities. I picked up some Hodgons US869 to try with 180's but the 165's seem to like a faster burnig powder like H4831ssc. I may pick up some IMR7828ssc and try it also.
This caliber is not for the easily intimidated. It does pack a fair amount of recoil, but it is not unmanageable. Probably comparable to a 338 Win mag. more of a big shove than a sharp kick like a 7 mag. As far as accuraccy goes , the more I tune loads and powder the more accuate it becomes. I did kill an elk with it last fall. A small 5 point raghorn that dropped in his tracks to a 250 yard neck shot with a 165 grain Scirroco 2. The bullet severed the vertibra in his neck and went on thru, leaving a pencil sized exit hole.
My rifle is in Remingtomn's 700 CDL. And so far it's like every other Remington I own, a fine piece of machinery.
I'm sure you won't be disapointed. If you like big magnums, this one will "git 'er done"
