Talking Chronograph ordered.

I just ordered a Competition Electronics Pro Chronograph from Midway. It will be real interesting to see what I am doing with my 7MM Rem Mag as I develop its loads. The same for my other stuff. I got the new barrel in the 7MM from 4” to 1” at 100 yard by touching up the fore end to free float it. It will be a new experience.

I've had one of those chrono's for a couple of years now and it's just excellent. Here's a word of advice. If your working with revolvor loads that have gas checks move it to about 6 to 8 foot in front of the muzzle. Sometimes a gas check can separate and if it hits the face of the readout it can kill it. This from experience. For rifle loads get it out to the fifteen foot range. I broke my buddies with my 8mm rem mag cause he put it to close when we first started using it.

Here's mine at work with my friends 300 Ultra-mag.

This is a Rem factory 180 Sirroco load.

You'll be happy with that unit. But allow me to reveal to you the Chronographer's Credo: Knowing more also means you'll know less.

That only sounds weird to a chronograph non-owner. Believe me when I say you'll end up with many more questions than answers.

Enjoy!

Maybe, but I found it comforting to see that I was getting better velocities than expected in nearly every round, making me satisfied to stop trying for more. And I used it to get two prairie doggin' rifles in different calibers to shoot pretty well identically out to 250 yards by adjusting velocity on the bigger.

6 months ago I bought a master chrony and just recently I have actually used it twice. I find it kinda quirky but once its set up and working good, its pretty cool. It is very interesting to see that my favorite hunting loads for my 300 rum and 30-06 are not as fast as I thought. But I am not worried because I am not looking for a extremely fast bullet just a very accurate one as I believe shot placement is more important when hunting. However I am still learning how to use the chrony and look forward to many more interesting discoveries. Have fun with yours and remember to buy a good tripod as I have seen guys at the range setting their chronys on the baffles and in my opinion that is a unsafe practice.

I got a cheap Chrony several years ago for Christmas. It may be the most-used Christmas gift I ever got. It's educational, at the very least.

faucett, that is a great idea using the jack for a front machine rest. Too cool! Think I'll try that.

I thought I was the only one who did that. I'd like to claim I had some genius plan of it being adjustable over a great height range, but in actuality- it was cheap!
