Looking for long range 300 wby loads. I'm going to be shooting out past 500 yds. Looking for a good match bullet and good powder. This is strictly for target shooting. Thanks guys.

The magnums are mostly useful in long range target shooting because they can keep a heavier, higher ballistic coefficient bullet above the transonic range between 800 and 1200 yards. Up to 600, a .308 or other lighter chamberings do quite well.

The most commonly used bullet for the purpose would be the Sierra 210 and 240 grain MatchKings, but they do require a 10" and 9" minimum twist, respectively. If you have the standard 10" twist, then the 210 should be a good choice.

I don't know your barrel length, but for a 24"-26" tube, QuickLOAD suggests Reloader 25 and 22 are both good candidates. You are looking for right around 2800 fps at the muzzle. Not too hot and not too cool and you will still be in the 1300's of fps at 1200 yards, then, with that bullet. IMR 7828 SSC and H4831SSC are also good prospects.

You can also look at Berger's 210 grain match VLD. It is almost as good as the newer Sierra 210 for BC, but only needs an 11" twist, so you'll have a little more stability margin with it and that may make it easier to tune in a sweet spot load. They are, if anything, even more precise than Sierra's bullets, but you pay more for them.
