300 Winchester Magnum
I am reloading 300 Winchester Magnun for Hunting. In the past, I have always used IMR 4350 for the powder with a 200 grain Nosler Partion Spitzer (did I name this right/)bullet. This combination produced 2750 mfps, if I use IMR 4320 I would lose 250 mfps but save 12 grains of powder per round. With an eight pound can that is 201 more reloads or ten boxes of ammunition. Which is better, is there a clear cut answer ?

If your accuracy is good with the Imr 4350/nosler combination stick with it, 250 feet/sec is a lot. This clearly seems to be a hunting load. How many animals do you expect to kill? If you want to put holes in paper, go cheaper.

Welcome to ShootersForum, Bullrun.
Are you looking for a way to reduce the MV and recoil of your 300 WM, or a way to save money on your reloads, or both? The preferred method for doing either is not with IMR-4320, as dropping that down to 2500fps is a bit tricky because you'll getting close to below recommended minimum charge weight. If you want to use less powder, don't go below the minimum of 52 grains that Nosler shows in their manual.
If you're looking for a way to shoot your 300WM with less recoil, consider using the loads found on this web page. http://www.hodgdon.com/PDF/Youth%20Loads.pdf You'll wind up using even less powder than with 4320 and still have loads that are perfectly adequate for 200 yard deer hunting.

Me & my brother shoot 70gr IMR-4350 and either a 165gr or 180gr bullet w/ WLR primers. The 165gr load has given SEVERAL guns 3000+fps and SUB-MOA groups @200yds. I'm talkin' .65" to 1.12" AT 200yds.
The 180s shoot a little bit slower - but into the same hole as the 165s @200yds. FWIW....

Like Broom_Jm said if you drop down that much on powder you'll be at about minimum loads. And 2500 fps you'll be below some .30-06 loads. Do what you want, but I say why waltz when you can rocknroll.

Looks like another one-'n-done, guys.
Why do so many people ask a question these days and then either walk away w/o ever listening to the response of learned men, or perhaps worse, argue against what you've offered when their own knowledge is admittedly limited? In other words, what happened to learning from your elders?

If you're worried about saving powder with a .300 Win Mag, you're going about it the wrong way. Mine really shoots better in the 3000 + fps range. Going that low on powder charge really defeats the purpose of the big magnum.

What if your intended purpose is simply to harvest a deer at 200 yards, or less? Sometimes less is more, when it comes to rifle cartridges.

I believe that the powder which more completely fills the case is likely the powder that gives best groups. So rather than partially fill a big .30, I'd fill an '06 if you have one.

..or a 300 Savage or a 30 Herrett. Lots of ways to go slower in a 30 caliber than with a 300WM.

"Which is better, is there a clear cut answer ?"
There is a clear cut answer but it's your's to make. We arent you, how can we possibly tell you if velocity or economy is the better choice for you?
You did buy a magnum, presumably for the "power" (velocity). If you load it to .30-06 speeds perhaps that would have been the better choice. If you had wanted real economy perhaps a .30-30 would have been better. Either way, the cartridge decision has been made, now it's up to you to determine what you want to do about the reloads. ??

You should have bought a 308
it shoots very accurate at 2550 fps and uses a lot less powder with no recoil.

IMR 4350 was the powder of choice for most factory rounds for many years in the 300 win mag.
My load
72.0 of IMR 4350
180 gr Nosler Part PP
WW cases with Fed 215M primer

The clear cut answer is you own the wrong gun. If you don't want to use the power available, and you are worried about saving a few grains of powder per round, you have the wrong gun.
