Smile Old Rem 170gr HP Core Lok

I got two boxes of old Rem 170gr Hollow Point core lok bullets (B22780) (.308) at a gun show. I'd like to use them with my Marlin 336 30-30 but I can't find any load data. I know better than to use data for Hornady or Speer bullets. Can I use data for the newer Rem 170gr core lok bullet? I thought I'd check with you guys.

You can use valid load data designed for any jacketed 170gr bullet with any other brand, as long as you start out 10% under just to be safe. Personally, I don't go that low, but that's my choice for my reloads only. Experience has showed me that unless it's a solid copper bullet, such as the Barnes, the load data for one brand of bullet is ok for any other brand, as long as the weights are the same.
Think of it this way, you are moving the same weight down the bore, against the same amount of friction, so the same powder charge will work, regardless of who manufactured the bullet.

Could you post some photos of the boxes. I collect old ammunition and the early Remington Cor-Lokt bullets are different than the 1970's and later bullets. Before you waste the older bullets on paper(if they are the older varity) they may be worth trading.

BREWSTER, I recieved the photos you sent me. Thank you. You have boxes of 1970's Remington bullets. As long as you are using same weight loading data you shouldnt have any problems. Weight for weight reloading is common and safe in most instances. The only differing factor to consider is when one bullet has an extra long bearing surface. Solid copper bullets have such a long bearing surface for weight of bullet. Also solid copper bullets require deeper seating thus requiring less powder charge as case space is taken up by the deeper seated bullet. Your bullets are basically the same as any other 170 grain bullet. The old Remington bullets I look for is the Remington Mushroom Cor-Lokt's.
