LVR Powder

Hi guys I'm new to the forum. I use LVR (leverevolution) powder with very good results in my 30-30 Ackley. I was wondering if anyone has tried it in other calibers besides the usual leverguns. I think it would probably work OK in cartridges of similar case capacity and pressure to levergun cartridges. The 303 British in particular operates at lower pressure and is of similar capacity to the 308 MX and 338 Marlin Express and at similar pressure. I also noticed that in the cartridges listed for LVR powder BLC-2 is also listed and seems to work well. Again this is the case with the 303 British and BLC-2 tested well for me. I talked it over with a good gunsmith who does some work for me and he thinks LVR should work in the 303 British if I use a charge similar to BLC-2 starting load and work up from there. Has anyone experimented with LVR. powder in other cartridges and how did it work for you?

Hodgdon specifically recommends against using LVR in anything other than the loads they have published. I'm sure at least part of that advice is driven by the threat of litigation, but they insist there is more to it than that.

With the disclaimer out of the way, I can't begin to understand why what you're proposing would be a problem. If the case capacity, working pressure and expansion ratio (bore diameter) are nearly identical, how could it NOT work? I'm not sure exactly how much case capacity the 308MX has, compared to the ~56 grains of the 303 British, but it can't be far off, based on the dimensions and performance of the round.

lvr

Hi broom jm thanks for the pm. I found an article in an old handloader issue from about a year ago. The writer did try LVR in other calibers and it worked OK. but there was no improvement over any other powders. The 303 British is the one I want to experiment a bit with LVR powder.

I tried various loads of LVR in a .300 Savage Remington Model 81. Performance/velocity was disappointing compared to IMR4064 and W748.

LVR outperformed every other powder load I tried in the .35 Remington, Remington Model 8.

Well I finally got out to try LVR. in the 303 British. It didn't work very well for me. I got early pressure signs and had inconsistent shot to shot velocity. BLC 2 worked much better for me.

I can't verify this but I have heard LVR is for 35rem/30-30 pressure levels and not for Higher pressure level cartridges. So say 36K to 42K psi.
