I remember reading the new Savages have a different nut which is smooth. I didn't believe it since I couldn't figure out how they were tightened. Checked the gun shop, and sure enough the nuts are smooth. I don't have a clue what the tool is thats used on them.

Maybe a call to Brownells wouldn't hurt.

The new Savage rifles have a smooth barrel nut.
Prowl around on savageshooters.com there are many barrel swap threads.
If you do not have a Yahoo groups account start one and look for the Savage110book group. In preferences click on Daily Digest and you get only one e mail every once in a while from this group. The owner of the group is gathering shooting and gunsmithing data on the Savage 110 series rifles and there is a bit of information on barrel swapping.
E. Arthur Brown Company along with many others sells quite a bit of gunsmithing supplies for barrel swapping. Savage Shooters has an extensive list of sponsors who provide barrels, tools and services to assist you.

I have a Savage 14 which is destined to be a 25 Souper but for the moment I am shooting a new cast bullet from the factory 308 Winchester barrel.

it is a brand new 16 accustock model. I contacted mcgowen before hand to make sure one of their prefitted savage 110 barrels would fit on it and they it would. Never thought about a smooth nut. I'll take it out of the action tonight to see how it looks underneath. I was gona buy a mcgowen till I found the shaw barrel kits
