Elderly couple's memory
An elderly couple noticed that they were starting to have short term memory problems so they went to visit their doctor. "Just carry a small notepad and write down anything you need to remember." was the doctor's suggestion.
A few evenings later while they were watching television the wife stood up and announced she was going into the kitchen to get a bowl of ice cream. "Get me one too!" the husband asked. She agreed, then the husband said "Don't you think you should write that down in your notepad?" "Oh, don't be silly, I'll be able to handle making a couple bowls of ice cream." was her reply.
Ten, fifteen, twenty minutes go by. Finally the wife comes out of the kitchen and hands her husband a plate of bacon and eggs. "I told you to write it down!" he exclaimed.
"YOU FORGOT MY TOAST!"

Yeah that sounds familiar, go to get something and forget what you went to get. Stand there and have to think about it.

i make shopping lists before heading into town. Usually on the way back I remember a couple things I forgot to scratch down. Hate to think of how bad it's gonna be when I get older!

My wife and I (71 and 75) have solved the problem, we just walk up and down every isle and grab anything we think we might need......actually my wife does the decision making and I push the cart. She insists I come alone for our quality time together which is torture for me....takes her 10 minutes to decide on which brand on things we've been purchasing for years, so the memory does have an impact time wise.....plus it's expensive and you gain weight.

Don't forget that when you get home you both look at each other and say in the same breath. "We forgot the milk we went for."
[note]1 gallon of milk $4.15, shopping spree $185.??, and you only went for milk.

And that certainly happens, but as you also point out, we go to get a gallon of milk and end up with a gazillion other things we desperately need that sit in the refrigerator/freezer for a month or more and then it's discarded. Do you know how many guns I've thrown away that way

OK, today makes the sixth time I have driven by the bank without stopping to cash the check that has been on my sunvisor for two weeks.
helping my wife clean out the bedroom furniture so we can move in the new we bought for Christmas. So far I have found three Basspro gift cards $75 value, $60 in cash, four boxes of assorted ammo and a ton of other things I don't remember getting.

I think I would call that one new gun for every 3-5 trips to the super market. A lot more when I was buying Mausers for $35.00 each. [Had to buy them back then in order to keep kdub from ending up with all the Sweeds.]

Wife doesn't let me go to the grocery store with her - I'm the one that pushes the cart after her, grabbing stuff off the shelves behind her and stuffing them into the cart. Gets really upset when hitting the checkout!

As I am retired and the wife is still working, I get to do all the grocery shopping. She makes a list and I buy it. About every other week I accidentally buy a $25 VISA gift card to stick back. I don't know how they keep falling in my basket......

Please, please don't take this personally, but you keep confirming my suspicions about Highway Patrolmen.......I'm referring to how smart they are, of course, so maybe you should take it personally

! At that rate when you get to be DOK and kdub's age you will need a note telling you where to look for the grocery list.
Example: [Note for self, ask other half where note for locating grocery list is.]
Added: Is that how it's done DOK?

No notes, no lists, just walk up and down every isle and select the indispensable items that the marketing folks have put at eye level. But Katie and I fool them, at 4'10" and 5'5", our eye level misses the more expensive versions of the "stuff"
