I remember a comment by a good friend in Texas regarding their crow regulations. Apparently the regs stated a closed season unless the crow was predating or about to predate. He asked me had I ever seen a crow not about to predate ..... now I couldn't vouch for Texas crows, having not observed that many ...live ones anyway, but I told him that UK crows hunted from dawn till dusk and even more so in the breeding season, when most damage would be done to other wildlife and crops. He declared that they must be kissing cousins with the Texas birds, because his observations concluded the same.

Just got in from deer hunting. Overly warm for this time of year in Connecticut. I couldn't decide whether to hunt squirrel or deer so I grabbed my 223 and thought that I would make the choice out in the stand. The squirrels started within 15 minutes of my arrival and never stopped.

With about 15 minutes of light left I decided enough was enough and scoped my first gray. I don't think it's mating season for them but one of the squirrels looked like he was mounting another. I decided that seeing I wasn't getting any as of late, I wasn't about to let him. When the rifle barked both of them went airborn and hit the ground dead. A friend of theirs a few trees over was making a desperate attempt to leave the area. One more shot and he joined his friends.

No venison, but the woods will be a bit quieter tomorrow when I go out.

I've only shot a couple ducks this past week. But did double on the Bull Sprig.
Colorado cow elk hunt coming up first week in Dec.

Nothing as of late except paper. Going back north to look for caribou soon though. They are moving now that it has gotten colder.

As a matter of fact, I popped 3 crows today, behind the barn. I was bored, and no fuzzballs showed themselves. Longest shot 235 feet, shortest 120-150. I was using by tried and true squirrel gun, J.C. Higgins Model 103.228. I have a OLD Tasco 4x32 on it.

Crows are covered under the Federal Migratory Birds Act, which basically says that you can't kill them unless they're a) in your crops or b) in season in your local state.

Based upon your post, this one did not meet requirement a.

As for requirement b, crows are legal to shoot in New York from September through March, but not on Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday, and you need to have a license.

That's not too bad. Until I found that, I was pretty sure you can't shoot them at all. God knows you're not allowed to own one. I remember the producers of Six Feet Under had to use an exotic crow species in their title credits because Hollywood animal trainers can't own domestic crows.

Still getting inputs on this thread that was started in 2009. The crows are not near as plentiful or bothersome as they were when I started this thread. They still make fun targets from time to time and the coyotes clean up the mess.

I shot a crow....

Yup.....I don't get too excited about them things, either. Trouble is, In Wisconsin, you will most likely get pinched if a warden spots you. I don't much care for them critters either. I would prefer the worms and bugs to take nature's course with dead carcases. Besides, I do get some enjoyment in popping them when I get the chance.
