Talking I shot a crow ..... so what .....

Registered Users do not see the above ad.

It's been a little slow on the forum so time for some bragging rights.

I came home from work today and there was a large crow standing on the pond berm. It was looking for bugs in the short grass kicked up from the prior day mowing and was all by itself. They generally have a sentry posted and squawk like the dickens when I walk out of the house. As soon as the alarm is sounded they take to the air get well out of gun shot range.

Today was different. This one was all by himself, no sentry, no squawking alarm, numb to all that was around him, just looking for bugs in the grass. I walked in the house grabbed the Fireball and a single round I knew would be accurate. Back outside I leaned over the hood of the Sequoia and set the scope on 10x. WOW what a clear sight scene.

Hummmmmm, where do I want to shoot this thing?

Head shot! Now you black noise maker, just stand still long enough for me to pull the trigger .... steady .... steady ....

POW .... reads like a label on the new super wizbang crow eliminator you would buy at the hardware store - Head-B-Gone.

I paced it off at 177 long paces. Not a world record but I was quite pleased with the fact I took its head clean off when that was exactly what I intended to do. It's been a whole year since I got a shot at a crow. His buddies have discovered their fallen comrade and are not happy campers. They keep flying all around the carcass making a terrible uproar.

So let the stories be told. What have you shot lately?

congrats, I'm sure you're proud of yourself.

Seems like after having a bout of cancer I'm lost my desire to kill those that do not offend me.

Absolutely does qualify, they are small targets and they are quick. I sometimes chase after them on the mower. Don't get many but the chase is fun. Open sights?

Hey Flashole how'd it taste? Like chicken? They seem to leave a foul after taste! Good shot!

worked up some loads for my 44, 300 grain xtps. shot a ground hog today with one, at about 15 yards. what was cool was that he was on the other side of a tree about 4 inches thick. i thought it was cool anyway.

only thing I shot lately

Was a stupid crow in the top of a pine tree. 30 yds with target loads, full choke. Certainly not very challenging, but I liked it. Haven't smoked a crow in a very long time.

I have a hole about 3" square in the wall of a shed. A few weeks ago I got four crows at about 50 yards with the .22 in one day before they woke up. It will be another two years probably before I get another shot at one. They seem to have long memories.

I shot a water moccasin this past weekend. Sent him right to snake heaven. One 22 LR round through the head.

Good deal, but you should know the best way to kill a snake is to cut off its tail, right behind the jaw. Spade shovels work really well.

Hey - at least he's out there flinging. Make sure you tell us when you do connect Chief. There are lots of recipies on the cooking forum for squirrels and rabbits. Please don't report back that you ate the crow in the litteral sense. Many of us have dined on crow as a matter of humility so you would not be alone there.

Say, did you check to see whether crows are covered by the Migratory Fowl Treaty before you did that?

Crows are legal fare here, although I haven't ever shot one. I've taken plenty of prairie dogs though, they are pretty dumb.
