Marta the Huntress

Registered Users do not see the above ad.

My youngest daughter Marta turned 14 this year.

Two years ago (12 years old for those who struggle with higher level math ) she went through 4-H Rifle Safety where they teach them safe gun handling practices and shooting technique with a pellet rifle.

After that is was 4-H Rim Fire shooting at both indoor and outdoor ranges ... more technique and safety.

Then she joined the 4-H shooting team (rimfire).

Earlier this year she took the Hunter's Safety Training course in New York state, got her "course completion card" and yesterday we purchased her junior license for 2012 and will be doing a Father/Daughter Youth Hunt over Columbus Day weekend. We hunt right from the home property but I am not allowed to carry a gun.

Got her decked out in blaze orange and camo yesterday and checked out the hunting area. While there 4 does came bounding down the trail so we know they are using it.

Worked up some light loads for the 45-70 and we'll be in the woods next saturday. The Guide Gun fits her best so we opted for it over the Ruger #1 25-06.

If we have any success I'll post a pic. This is her shooting at one of the matches. She's in the center.

Good for you and your daughter. You will be making memories that will last forever. My wife used to coon hunt with her father and still talks about it 50 years later.

My youngest is 11 this year and has been shooting with us pretty serious the last year or so. Well, for her birthday in October, Grandpa bought her a little Mossberg bolt-action 22. For Christmas, Santy-Claus put a 4X scope on it and gave it a thorough cleaning. (The chamber was pretty sticky, making it tough for her to chamber rounds.)

Then it snowed. Quite a bit. So, we have done little more than roughly site it in, since then. She is not as "intense" as my older daughter, but still can't wait until next fall when she can get out there and bark a few tree rats with her rifle! She's always been very close to her Grandma, so when she found out about Grandma's famous squirrel stew...well, now she's more motivated than ever.

That's fantastic! Good for you. Can't wait to see the pics of her first deer. Light loads in a 45-70???? Is there really any such thing!!! I'm surprised you guys chose that over the .25-06 even if it fits her better. That's a lot of wallop no? Even with "light" loads????
