What if......
What if you had $10-20k for a hunt.
what would you like to hunt? I don't mean you have to use it all......but what would be your ideal hunt?

I really have no desire to hunt Africa. Suppose the next choice would be New Zealand for stag or Alaska for caribou.
Either of those have appeal to me.

Canadian black bear and caribou would be my choice for hunts.

Always wanted to visit Alaska, a moose would just sweeten the deal.

Either back to Namibia for eland, impala, and warthog, maybe another kudu, or, to Alaska for moose, if I could figure out how to get all that wonderful meat back without emptying the wallet. Maybe an Ibex, somewhere......

Supertag for elk or moose here in Montana. I think 10K in gas money should cover it....

That equates to around £10.000. A business class seat London to Houston or DFW ?? £3000
Then I would go looking for a really nice axis. Guided a few clients to one or two but never managed to put one on the wall myself. It would have to be free ranging.
The remainder I would spend .... errr??? errrrrr??? HUNTING HOGS :
I work it that for the remainder I could probably shoot eight or ten monsters, or just whack 'em and stack 'em as they came, plus my allowance of two javies and as many verminous critters as I could persuade into my sights.
Lots of lead in the air for the money
By the way guys for $20,000 you could have one **** of a time here in the UK around late September early October. Certainly take six different varieties of deer, have a good day driven partridge and another at pheasant, plus endless pleasure at pigeons and wildfowl. Why just shoot one bullet, when you can spread the lead.

Back to the Upper Kobuk for caribou, moose and brown bear. $1000 to fly me and my gear in and out, but need another $1200-$1500 to fly it all back out. But then, I don't need a guide as I'm a resident.
SA, Zim, Tanzania or Namibia for plains game and maybe Cape Buff.
That's the dream hunt. $20K may not be enough.

I think it would be Elk in Montana or Colorado. Big horn ram would possibly be my first choice but I do not know if you could touch a guided hunt for them with 10K. Not sure I would have the guts to walk in terrain where a little slip and you are going to fall a long way down. Cape buffalo would be a rush but perhaps better left to fantasy than reality.

Don't think $20k would make much of a dent in my BIG 5 dream, so I'd probably do a sheep/goat hunt in Alaska. Maybe throw in a Brown bear or Yukon moose if there was enough left over.

If money were no object, I would do something along the lines of the great hunts Jack O'Connor used to write about, spending a month or more up in Canada or Alaska, pursuing the great game animals of North America. Caribou is high on my list, as is a black bear and a moose. A Stone sheep or Dall would be awesome...shot with my 270, in honor of Jack! Call me a sissy if you like, but I have no desire to hunt a big brown bear.
If $10,000 was the cap, I would see how far that would get me toward a bull elk, 4x4 Muley and a speed goat, all on one trip. I bet I could do that with $15K, anyway.
ETA - I know it wouldn't cost anywhere near $10K, but I would love to go freeze my butt off in Saskatchewan or Alberta, and shoot one of those huge-bodies whitetails, with the really heavy, chocolate racks!

African plains game.
But a warm up out west with pronghorn, mule deer, and bighorn sheep would be perfect.
That dang sheep might take the whole budget, though.

I wish
Toss up between New Zealand stag hunt and a Yukon Moose hunt. But don't think I have the legs for either, but would sure give it my best.
