Back towards the beginning of this year I won a Lyman 66A reciever sight on eBay. When it arrived I was not happy to see that someone had opened up the mounting screw holes to a much larger size.
Since the seller was in Canada I decided it wasn't worth the hassel to try to send it back to him for a refund. And I figured he probably didn't know the difference in the screws.
I called Lyman and ordered some extra mounting screws, and asked the gal I talked to if Lyman could repair this sight. She said, maybe, but wasn't really sure about it. She said they usually did not do that sort of repairs. I thanked her and waited for the screws to arrive.
When the screws arrived I mounted the sight on my 94AE Trapper .45. The factory screws worked as they should even with the oversized holes. But then I realized that the fit of the top of the sight to the base was wobledy loose. Not useable at all.
I put it away for several months, then at the last gun show I talked to guy who sold gun parts and accessories. He mentioned he thought he had some bases but they were in Missouri. No help.
So after the show I sat down and wrote out a letter to Lyman detailing the situation. And I offered to pay for the repairs if they could be done. Then sent the sight off to them.
Today the sight came back from Lyman. I opened the package and there was same slightly dingy orange box I had sent it in. Inside of that was my little zip lock bag wrapped in the bubble wrap. And inside of that was the sight. They had fitted a new base to the sight, and returned it to me along with the old base. And it's a much tighter fit. I can't feel any looseness at all.
At no charge! I am tickled. Service like this will definatly cause me to buy more Lyman products.
Pic shows old base with enlarged holes and the sight with the new base.
