Replacing Iron sights

Hey all,

I need to change the iron sights on my BL-22 (the current one doesn't go low enough), would they be gun-specific or a standard size?

How do I change them out - drift pin and hammer for the front, and what for the rear?

Any type of iron sights that would be preferred over the stock ones? Gold bead/ ivory (white?) bead? I don't want fiber optic, trying to look classy. What styles of rear iron sights exist? Should I go for a peep instead?

Thanks for the help.

Matt

[I need to change the iron sights on my BL-22 (the current one doesn't go low enough),]

Then only get a higher front sight blade, so the rear will zero, and have more adjustability.

[would they be gun-specific or a standard size?]

The sight dovetails should all be the US industry standard 3/8", of whatever height.
Ramp mounted front sight blades are narrower at the base (side-to-side) than sights meant to mount directly in a barrel dovetail - so, after ordering the correct height, be sure to also order it in the correct width.

[How do I change them out - drift pin and hammer for the front, and what for the rear?]

If a front sight's in a ramp, be sure to support the ramp from the hammer blows - a sight pushing tool is best, though.
Some rears are dovetail mounted (yours), but some rear sights are screwed to the barrels, so YMMV, here.

All dovetail sights are driven OUT to the right as the riflr is sighted for firing; back IN towards the left.

YMMV - I'd sooner pick you out a woman.

[What styles of rear iron sights exist?]

Different versions of the issue sight already there; forward mounted peep; folding blade sights, and ladder sights.

[Should I go for a peep instead?]

YMMV here, also - doable on a BL22, but not EZ.....And, an even higher front will be needed to achieve zero.
