peep sight installation on 336A

Ok guys, help me out. I bought an older 336A (1951) in a 35 rem. and want to install the williams peep and firesight combo. It is not drilled and tapped. Is this something I can do? I am mechanically inclined but have not done any gunsmithing to date. Experience in tapping automotive type things. Do I need a jig?? The ones I looked at (williams) is about $125. I just hate to pay $30 dollars to a gunsmith to tap 2 holes!

Secondly, explain if you would how to drift out the front sight. Also I understand the orig. rear sight needs to come off as well and I don't know how this is done either.

Lastly, I plan to use the new rear sight as ghost ring---taking out the peep. Should this be mounted as close to the eye as I can get it without interferring with the hammer? When it is install, I am thinking my sight picture will be this round "ring" with the front firesight lined up in the middle and my target "perched" atop the front sight----Is this correct? If not how does one aim with just a ghost ring and front sight?

Thanks to any one who can help. I am really looking forward to gettting this together and shooting it. Most of my other guns are scoped and I wanted an outfit to shot with open sights but eyes aren't the greatest hence the firesight set up. thanks again John

Go to a gunsmith. Your rifle will thank you.

Get the 336/94 (you have the top mount model 336FP) sight your gun is drilled and tapped, on the left side of the receiver you will see three holes, two with set screws these are the receiver peeps screws, the one in the middle is the ejector locator. I have a 336A 1949 and this is what is there on mine. Take care and good shooting. Swany
