Sorry, but I am no longer a Remington fan. I love Marlin lever actions rifles, so I guess I will stick to used versions.

Remington will continue to produce them in my opinion. This will be a "cash cow" for them, especially when they "off-shore" the production to compete with Rossi, Puma, etc.

let us really think about it why would a company buy another and then close it down let alone buying 3 companies. like previously stated marlin has a potential to be a cash cow for remington and they would not compete against them so consolidate manufacturing and use machinery already available to produce even more. basically reduce manufacturing costs on the marlins increase profits so more options are available throughout the entire product line

I kinda doubt the extra option stuff, but we shall see. I think they may likely drop the units that don't sell well & thus be more profitable.

Marlin is just moving. Quality will improve with Remington's guidance. Nobody makes better firearms than Remington.

More serious than a heart attack. I've been shooting Remington products for nearly 50 years and prefer them over all others. Having Marlin & H&R under the same roof with Remington is a great thing.

I agree! Show us a better mass produced firearm.

Personally, I dont like the idea of one company owning so many labels. Seems kinda like a monopoly to me. What happens if that company falls on hard times? Probably very unlikly, but you never know.

The votes are already in. Gun sales will drive this out. Even if Remington is the best in the world, I doubt quality would improve. Bottom line will. Anybody bought a new Win 70 from SC yet. They are being made at the FN plant in Columbia, I hear.

Let's see, there used to be this really huge automotive company that had nearly a dozen lines of automobiles under one umbrella, and their quality was exceptional, at one time. That worked out pretty well, for a while, but not so much in the last 30 years.

I can scarcely think of one thing being made in this country that has the same quality and workmanship as what was produced 50 years ago. The only silver lining here is that the doors at Marlin aren't being closed, yet...just moved. Where competition begets quality, innovation and diversity, a monopoly benefits the company with consolidation, homogenization and economies of scale.

I don't see any of this resulting in a better Marlin, only a more profitable Remington.

My current production Remingtons are nicer and more accurate than ever.

Much better than anything Winchester produced in the past and highly accurate.

That is really good to hear. I would think the workmanship would be very good. Folks round here need to keep their job and that would be a good one at the FN plant. Yours is the first report, whatsoever, I have heard on the new M 70.

Sorry, but my pre (and post) '64 M70s would have to disagree with that blanket statement. Owners of the new (and admittedly nice) FN M70 certainly do oooooooo and aaaaaaaaa over my older guns when they handle them and admit they are nicer. I happen to own pre '64 standard and FW rifles, post '64 rifles, and the other two models of M70 FW (XTR and classic/CRF) and I found the quality of my '90s FW classic to be nicer even than a new Kimber 84M I got in their first year of production. I'm most certainly not knocking the FN M70, but merely saying Winchester did produce a quality product too.

Nothing Winchester ever made would shoot out of the box with current FN production. They didn't make MOA out of the box rifles. That's why the Remington Model 700 eventually killed the old Model 70 off.

Probably not a popular opinion, but I'm with Swampman here. My recent CDL's and LSS Laminated have been the best ever.

I recently sent a letter to Remington, asking about Marlin availability, and the move. Marlin Rifles were becoming available, price was the same, and the reason for the move was cost of production in CN. Taxes, labor, benefits, and insurance. The same reason jobs are leaving NJ. I suspect that's the case.

It's probably time to wait and see.

I hope Rem/Marlin will introduce a new box magazine lever gun, chambered for the 6.8 Rem, 6.5 Grendel , 7mm EM-2 , the 7.62x32 Russian ,all that cheap ammo,the 6.5 & 556/223 and the normal chambering 243.308 and so on, maybe the 375 JDJ
Give it a all weather finnish, add options ,rail/scout type ,ladder sights out 500 yds, military type sights out 500 yds. Then add a second versions of this lever rifle, for hand gun ammo
