Anyone know how to ID my Savage 99-model # and date of mfg??

Reference so I can check. I have found several but too many deadends.

Since Savage made umpteen different versions of the Model 99 over the years, the model can usually be best identified from clear pics of each side, to include the buttstock & forend configs; accompanied by an accurate barrel length measurement & chambering designation.

Hopefully, it won't have been reconfigured from original by someone.

The DOM on many can be sometimes determined by the SN, and/or a date code letter on the lever boss (some years).

If you want a reference YOU can check, you'll have to build an extensive gun reference libriary, like others have ( since 1965, for me ) - although there ARE some SN online sources, IIRC.

Go to: savage99.com look for the serial # to date link and try rhat. It worked for my 1936 model.

That works until about 1960 and then it says made after 1960...

I guess the didnt keep too good of records.

It is not that inportant. I can call it whatever I want, or whatever is hot that day. Who kbows the difference?
