Since Savage made umpteen different versions of the Model 99 over the years, the model can usually be best identified from clear pics of each side, to include the buttstock & forend configs; accompanied by an accurate barrel length measurement & chambering designation.
Hopefully, it won't have been reconfigured from original by someone.
The DOM on many can be sometimes determined by the SN, and/or a date code letter on the lever boss (some years).
If you want a reference YOU can check, you'll have to build an extensive gun reference libriary, like others have ( since 1965, for me ) - although there ARE some SN online sources, IIRC.
