I think my .405 was one of the original run of .270 overrun's that Miroku took back from Winchester & converted to .405, as it didn't have the peep sight prep (D/T) on the left side of the receiver.

That's a great deal and interesting information as I wasn't aware of the conversion story. At today's prices, the 10 boxes of loaded ammo would be worth almost $400.
One dealer - Bud's Guns - now offers the 1895 Grade 1 rifles in 30-40 Krag at two prices only $4 apart. ($964 & $968) The difference seems to be that the higher priced rifle is an older USRA import while the other is a newer import.
I've admired the 1895's for many years and now I'm anxious to shoot mine!
