i have a 99 with a solid frame forend. when i removed the forend the barrel has the arrow and the word off stamped on it. can a takedown barrel be fitted to a solid frame receiver? how hard is it to twist the barrel on a takedown model?
I have owned a few takedowns and more are as loose as a goose. It seems for every shot fired they were disassembled 3 times. I once had a takedown 1899 that was apparently never taken down and the owner was totally amazed it was a takedown model. The barrel was quite tight and almost needed a barrel vise to get it to be removed from the reciever. If you can post a few close-up photos of the forend and underside of the barrel I might be able to help.
I took a few pics but can't figure out how to post them. Thanks for your help. I think it's like you said barrel has never been removed and is stuck from the powder residue and old oil.
