Lever rifle with box magazine?
When will they make a box magazine lever gun for handgun ammo, also why not chamber the 7.62x39 for box magazine lever rifle?

Check out Ruger's 96/44. It's a lever action in .44 Magnum with a detachable rotary magazine.

I think the problem with chambering a 7.62x39 in a lever-action is that it is a 'tweener; the length is longer than magnum pistol cases but quite a bit shorter than a 30/30. Also, the 7.62x39 is ballistically very similar to the 30/30, out to about 200 yards. What would you gain by choosing a round that is more difficult to find hunting ammo for, unless you just want to shoot cheap surplus stuff for fun?

My guess is that they don't because most box mag lever action rifles are "regular" high power rifle rounds like the 308 win and the wsms. High bother putting a flat nosed lower power round into such a rifle?
I do agree that a boxed round rifle would make for easier shooting. Just put in a new clip and keep on shooting. It'd be real nice if one had the same clip as say a desert eagle (or adaped to work with one) Then you could shoot both the rifle and the hand gun after loading a whole bunch of clips at home.

For .357 Mag/.44 Mag/.45 Colt and similar, the tubular magazine is probably superior. A 10 round clip would likely stick way out the bottom and be rather unwieldy, whereas a 10-round tube magazine is cleanly integrated into the rifle. Besides, once you started getting high capacity mags, gun fearing folks would probably want to give us grief over our lever guns!
As for the 7.62 x 39, I don't see much point in it either for a lever action, although I'm sure a number of people would buy one. A BLR would seem to be overkill for the cartridge; not sure, but maybe Ruger could created a modifed 96 to handle it.

Why not a BLR in .308 or .243 or ..... they have many options?

Savage Model 99C.
They are out there.
Yeah, I dont see them chambering a levergun in 7.62x39 because it doesnt do anything 30-30 does and its not anywhere near "traditional" and most lever gun buyers and shooters seem to be "tradition" people and that is what they are looking for.

Well you can buy 500, 7.62x39 RDs for little over $100.00, how much for 500, 3030 RD's?
Wouldn't you like to use pointed tip handgun RDs in box magazine lever gun?

Both good questions, but you can also buy an SKS for a lot less than a new lever-action and if you want to shoot pointed tip handgun rounds from a carbine, there are excellent semi-auto options for that, too.
Point being, the lever-action is old school, and there's nothing wrong with that. If you want to burn through 500 rounds or shoot high-performance pistol ammo, there are less expensive and more effective ways to go about it. You can retrofit a horseless carriage with a twin-turbo, fuel-injected, 6 cylinder, but you won't find many people interested in buying one.

Your lower priced 7.62X39 is FMJ and not a good choice for hunting, where the lever action is at its best. SKS's, AK's & Mini 30's are all fairly inexpensive reliable and plentifull.

Wolf makes a decent 150 grain soft point hunting round. Not great but decent. Still, you want to burn 500 rounds of Wolf Military Classic, get an SKS.
I do understand what youre saying slow2run, but the idea that Marlin is going to completely retool a production line to build an updated Savage 99 for 7.62 x39 or 460 Smith is cost prohibitive.

Can't say as I blame ya. Find a good 'smith, give him a donor lever-gun and start signin' checks. I'm sure he can work up a 7.62x39 lever-action wonder...but don't yell at us if you wind up asking yourself why you didn't just get a 30/30.

When the Uk banned semi autos there was a lot of BLRs and Remington Pumps converted to take AR15 or M14 mags. Also many Remington 700s ended up with large capcity mags. All a matter of laws funneling creativity. Have seen Ruger 96s with grease gun mags in 45acp too. Enfields converted to take pistol mags. Think yourselves lucky you guys you live in a country where at the moment you have some freedoms with firearms. Nearly everyone else in a western country are fighting hard to keep what we have and it is all being gradually eroded.

Tell you what, Slow...send me a certified cashiers check for $500K and I will tool up my shop and make you a box fed BLR levergun in whatever caliber you want...along with 12 BLR rifles to use for mockup/design development including 5 extra box mags each and a few dozen cases of the ammo you want to use. I'll get to is as soon as I buy that fancy truck, and Blond to go with it, to drive around while the shop is being refurbished.
While I'm working hard on in the design phase you can use a factory standard, box fed, 308 size cased round, but be sure to buy a couple dozen extra mags and have an assistant keep them loaded up while you hose down the hillside.

Box magazine lever gun
I have a Winchester Model 88 in .284 Win. and it is a great weapon. I've had it sine ce early '60's and use it every year for an annual trip the visit my winter meat supply. If your Savage is anything as smoothe as this rig is have a ball. They are really nice. I still have a rotary mag. 250-3000. Nice cartridge and the system has been a good one. Those Model 99's I was around were all very dependable.
