I have a real problem. I am working on Winchester 1887 lever action 12 gauge shotgun. It will not stay on 1/2 cock. I found that the cam on the lever is worn on the spot where the notch would be for the 1/2 cock. The full cock notch is nice and crisp but the spot for the 1/2 cock is worn down to a nub and I can not find any specs or schematics for this fine old gun.

Is anyone here in possession of any info on how this part of the cam looks like, even a good hand drawn diagram would be appreciated. A friend who is a Master Welder is welding up the spot so it is flush with the rest of the cam but what I need is what the notch looks like, where exactly it is located and how deep to go with my Dremel tool to get a 1/2 notch safety, Thanks in advance,

Redmond you have been so helpful. The diagram is great, never thought I would see one. What is I need is an actual photo (close up) of the part # 29 - hammer that shows the two notches cut into it that gives the gun a 1/2 cock (safety) position and the full cock positions. The full cock is still there but the area for the 1/2 cock is worn out and I can't see how the notch was cut. Thanks for all your help and I know somehow, someone, will come through with the info cause this is one of the best sites for gun knowledge.
