Unless you really know what you're doing, such as with wildcat cartridges and rechambered barrels, you ONLY load what is stamped on the barrel! The Marlin 336 action is not built for the higher pressures of the 350RM or Whelen rounds. In fact, it is limited to fairly mild rounds like the 30/30, 35 Remington and certain pistol rounds.
Now, if you want to get one of the newer Marlins in 308 or 338 Marlin Express, you start to have a more powerful rifle. Outside of a Winchester '71 in 348Win, the 338MX is about the most powerful, long-range option available, particularly if you use the factory Hornady LeverEvolution ammo with the FTX bullet. Be prepared to search high n' low for a 338MX and pay fair value for it. Also, let it be known that this round already appears headed for obsolescence.
