Yup, bore snakes work well, but you can use a bore guide and clean them from the muzzle with standard cleaning rods also. Brownell's, Cabela's and Midway all have muzzle guides.
Cool, I'm going to order a muzzle guide on payday. You recommend coated rods or ? any preferences. I was told to chuck that aluminum three section deal that comes in all the kits at the box mart. What do you catch all the crud in or how do you keep it out of the chamber?
I have BoreSnakes in 30 cal, 35 cal, 22 cal and 44 cal for all of my Marlin lever guns. That being said, it works well for incidental cleanings. But I still pull the bolt and do a thorough cleaning from the breech end before I put the gun away for the season.
If you have a Marlin, you can do this. One of the nice things about the Marlins.
Thanks for all the help. Now I just need to keep the trigger from rattling forward and back. I'll have to make a post. Thanks now I have lot of good cleaning ideas.
That's the Marlin "flop" and aside from replacing the trigger with the WWG Trigger Happy Kit, there is no way to get rid of it. It's how the triggers are made. You can order the WWG Trigger for $90 @ Midwayusa.com. Personally, I wouldn't spend the money.
