What is the finish on the top and bottom of the receiver on a 336? Is it parkerized? Only the actual sides are blued, is the rest of the receiver parkerized or is it some other kind of finish ? I have a 336 RC, not sure exactly when it was made, I think in the 60's .

Thanks Alk8944. I understand what's happening now, they sandblast that part of the receiver to get that dull look. I should be able to reblue it (once the old blue is removed) and have the same dull finish right?
Marlin did this as a cost savings procedure. Older models were polished and blued in the asked about areas. MUCH nices the old one were. If you reblue you can polish the beadblaster areas and get a smoot reblue.
Thanks 30-30remchester. Do you know if the rear sights are interchangeable on all the 336 models ? My 336RC has the "stamped" sight and I'm thinking about installing one of the folding buckhorn sights. Will the newer style folding sight fit my barrel ? I believe the barrel cut out is the same but I'm not sure. Mine is missing the elevator anyway so I figured I would replace the whole sight if the folding one will fit.
The rear should be the standard dovetail, but may take a little fitting to get a correct fit with a new sight.
