A neat older model
A neat older 'no checkering' older model back when Marlin made them 'slimer' would be a prize. I've looked a lot for one at the two local gun shops,,but haven't seen one come thur yet. But, if I do, I might just lay down the green. Just kinda perfer the older models,,altough if a good deal on a new checkered one came by , I might nab it.
I love them 39s...fine rifles.

In my opinion you won't find a better looking rifle than the Marlin 39's from the 1920's. It just looks good, and shoots good. You can find them on GunBroker and Guns America, but they are pricey. James

I have a 39A I bought for $20 in a tag sale, front and rear sights broken. Rusty out side. Very clean inside. This gun was a 1966 with large fore end and pistol gripped. I remade it into what appears to be the first mountie that came with a slim fore end straight stock and very slim fore end with a 24 inch bbl. When I put it together after cleaning and modifying it. I installed file in muzzle loader sights on it with silver front blade. I removed the ramp that was damaged also. Get a 39A and slim the wood. Mine is sanded flush with the metal I reblued anyway.

Swany, I gotta tell you, that's without a DOUBT the very best lookin' 39 I ever seen ! I always disliked the pistol grip as they belong on bolt rifles, not levers, and the "Fat" wood on the forend always turned me off too.... what you have done there is produce exactly what Marlin SHOULD have....
I would have also heated the hammer spur and bent it up like the 73' Winchesters, but hey, that's just my preference .....
Very Nice Job.... now I want one just like it !

Well, gotta brag a bit - first firearm I ever purchased myself was a 1937 made Model 39 with the star by the Ser #. Was just getting out of the service in '57 and found it in a pawn shop in Manitu Springs, just outside of Colorado Springs, Co. Paid $25 for it and it has the #1 spot in the gun vault today. Case hardned receiver, 24" octagon barrel, burl crotch walnut stock. Priceless!

Yes, I'm like you. I don't like those fat fore arms either. My model 39(1926) is slim and I have a 74 39A which is slim also. Slim is good. James

I have a good 1956 M39A, has the pistol grip and micro groove rifleing. but it was my dads and it wont ever go anywere. Lots of great memories were made, and will continue to be made with that little stinker.
Its no longer pretty to look at, and the stock was broken and repaired once in its past, but its still mine and it does its job well stil.

If you were addressing me, I do know that. First picture is a Golden 39A, the second a Golden 39M.
The M's are kind of scarce, and I'm glad I found mine.

Here is my most recent 39, 1954 mountie and the seller had it delivered. $250 thought I was getting it cheap because I pointed out the bbl was drilled and tapped for a scope mount. Then I found out Marlin done that for Sears, and they also did it on special order. Got the mount new in the package from that period, and a period J4 weaver coming. It's missing the bullseye from the stock but otherwise it is like new.

Thanks for sharing Swany. I am still looking for my first 39. I see you are from Howard City. I am from Muskegon. Small world, isn't it?
