Yes, the Navy has done good! The President should even get credit for allowing the on-scene commander to make decisions!
We may never know the details, what weapon was used, how far, etc but lying on the deck (as described), especially one with non-skid on it, ain't fun. Shooting from a rolling deck at a small target bobbling like a cork is a challenge. Trying to make a coordinated (3) one-shot kill and not have any collateral damage (hitting the Capt) is quite a different thing. Of course, SEAL marksmen train dilligently for this and if you asked them, they will tell you it was a job they trained for. Training! Training! It Works!
It seems that one of the pirates, a 16 yr old, jumped ship into a Navy boat that apparently was delivering supplies (and drawing intel). I think, despite his age, he may have been the smartest of the lot! There were only three targets when they activated their well thought-out plan. None the less, it was pulled off fantasticly well and my old Navy hat is off to them all.
By the way, I would like to add that I served on the old Bainbridge (CGN-25) and I would like to think the Can Do attitude of highly trained and motivated sailors has carried over to these 'go-gett'm' Bainbridge sailors. Man I would have loved to have been part of that crew!
