Talking Pictures of my new 44mag Browning B92 Centennial-1978 w/questions

The only thing I dont like is the rear site square notch is too tiny to utilize! Any suggestions here? Also the pinned front blade is too short.Again any ideas? It measures .060" thick. As for cleaning the gun do I take out the lever and slide out the bolt like Marlins? Also what is the twist rate of the barrel?

No idea about disassembly. I'd suggest a bore snake, or Wipe-Out Bore Foam to keep cleaning rod wear to a minimum (when you do use a cleaning rod, get a bore guide for the muzzle, or cut off a .243 case or something like that, so the rod can't rub up against the rifling).

Sights - get a Brownell's catalog. There's formulas so you can figure out how tall to get, and if they don't have it, you probably don't need it.

I'd just file the notch in the rear sight wider, myself.

I just picked up a 92, and have not quite figured out the tear down yet,,, I either did not pull all the correct screws for teardown, or mine has sticky spot I need to push pass.. Anyhow, I would go with Mike on this one, at least till we find some real good literature on this subject...

If your Browning is similar to the Winchester '92, the breechbolt cannot be removed without removing the hammer first. You can clean it from the breech but that would entail disassembly of much of the rifle. It is much easier to clean it from the muzzle as no disassembly is required. If you clean from the muzzle, just be careful not to rub your cleaning rod against the rifling at the muzzle. What I do to avoid pushing all the powder residue into the receiver is to push the rod without the brush, through the barrel until you can see the tip of the rod through the open breech. Screw the brush onto the rod and pull the rod through the barrel. That way, all the powder residue comes out the front. Unscrew the brush, then repeat this process until you feel the barrel is clean. Follow up with patches of solvent and gun oil from the muzzle end. Clean the breechbolt and surrounding area with a small gun brush. Apply a little gun oil to the bolt guide rails, wipe everything down, and you're all done.

Cleaning a B-92

Just do the barrel and what you can see with the action open. It's a living ***** to disassemble this rifle so unless you know what you are doing, DON'T! These are almost exact replicas of the Winchester only better!

The bore snake is great!

See my new thread to download the B92 Factory Service Manual; it has complete disassembly/assembly instructions.
