Hi , looken for some info on the thompson center tang peep sight. I've been looking at peeps for my T/C hawken.
lyman are good but a little bulky , I like the fact that there's
nothing hanging over with the T/C sight. but I can't find any info on the aperture size and if it's adequite for hunting .
Thank you for any info you could give me
Ash

I can't tell by the illustration if they take the regular Williams/Lyman/Redfield disks or not. If they do, there's lost of variety to pick from. You may have to give T/C a call.

I had a T/C peep on a white mountain. Sold the gun awhile back to a friend who still uses it. I found the hole in the aperture to small for my liking and drilled it out a little bigger. Also found it made a pretty good "ghost ring" if you removed the aperture all together.

I've got the Thompson Center tang peep and a Williams Fire Sight front bead on a T/C Renegade. The aperature that came with the T/C peep is a touch small for my hunting taste. You can use it without the aperature as a ghost ring, but I mostly use a Williams twilight aperature. The threads are the same as the Williams peep sights.

Check out the Brownell's web site (or paper catalog). Do a search for "sight aperatures". They sell individual aperatures for under $10 or you can get an assorted 3 pack for about $25.

I have a T/C peep sight mounted on both my .50 and my .54 T/C Hawkens.
As my main target is paper target I am totally happy with them. If you are into hunting, you can enlarge the hole with a 1/16 inch or a 5/64 dia drill bit.
Knowing that you can always cut the board shorter but it's hard to cut it longer I would suggest trying the 1/16 first. If it's too small redrill it with a 5/64, 3/32 and a 7/64 dia bit. Try each size before moving on to the next larger one and remember, you will loose accuracy with each larger size.

I think Lyman and Williams are interchangeable. The Williams Thread is 7/32"-40 and so is Redfields.
