45 cal loads for CVA Optima

Hi all, I just got a 45 cal inline and am looking for some good starter loads for it. I have shot 50 before but this is my first time playing with 45 cal.
I already picked up some triple 7 and a few different sabots I am going to play with.

Anyone have any good recommendations for loads? Thanks!

My buddy just bought a 50 cal CVA Optima. We picked up several types of sabots and a jug of 777. We shot and shot and shot that gun at 50, 75 and 100 yards and could not get it to group.

I went home and got a poundof Pyrodex Select and tried it. It shoots a 1 inch group at 100 yards with the Pyrodex Select. We shot it at 175 yards and it printed about 3-4 inch groups.

I have no experience with a 45 cal. I would do a search on powder charge for 45 cal and try it. Then move around until it shoots the way you expect it to.

I shot a T/C G2 in .45 for several years. Maxi-ball's would group in the 2" range with 80gr. Jim Shockey Gold, but Powerbelt's in the 195gr.-225gr. would be touching at 50yrds., using 90-95gr. of JSG. Your gun will tell you what it likes. Goodluck and have fun

Get some .40 caliber 200 grain XTPs and the Harvester light blue sabots. They are for the .40 caliber bullet but made for a .45 caliber rifle. Another good bullet is the 200 grain SST. Try about 90 grains of powder and see how that shoots for you.

Shot 200 grain SST out of it yesterday and it shot well! At 100 yards I was keeping about a 6 inch group with open sights. I am sure that the group size was me, not the rifle. I think I am going to stick with those, they seem to be pretty flat shooting out a little further as well.

Thanks!

I shoot them Shockwaves and XTPs in my .45 Green Mountain Barrel that sits on my Renegade stock. Just a real nice shooter. And on a different forum a person reports using the 200 grain XTP on deer and it did real well. I personally have not used them on a deer. So I am just passing along what I read.
