Anyone have any good hunts planned for this fall???
I have a fall bear hunt planned for September, our season runs Aug.1-Dec31. My hunting buddy from work and I are going to have to bike in 4-6 miles from the road for a four day hunt. This is in the saddle mountain unit.
Then we have a 10 day deer hunt the last week in Oct/first week in Nov. in the Wilson unit.
Both thees hunts are close to home as I live in the Saddle mtn unit on the Columbia river.

So what do you guys have planned????

My hunting buddy and I are going to Colorado on an elk hunt this fall. We have put in for cow elk and mule deer draw tags. If we don't get drawn for these, we will just buy an over the counter bull elk tag and keep on going. We make the Colorado trip every other year.

I'm not eligible for resident first draw elk for another 7 years. If I'm unsuccessful on the second and third draws for elk I'll apply for antelope. Antelope and elk open the same weekend, I'd rather hunt elk and generally takes more time to fill than goats.

Still planning on prairie and hills deer again this year.

The next hunting will likely be an opening day dove hunt with family and friends on the 1st sat. of Sept. A couple weeks later I have taken a couple weeks off so I can concentrate on taking a deer with my recurve. I have one to my credit but I would like to get that close to a few more before I return to the gun hunting and the comeraderie of deer camp for the rest of the season.

I'm with Mattsbox. I have to wait and see what tags I draw. Most likely though I will make a trip to hunt elk in Central Mt. I will hunt whitetails and mulies this fall, and a speed goat if I get drawn again.

If I draw for Moose that will be my main focus, since you can't enter the drawing for seven years if you are successful. I'm definitely going to be using my .350 Rem Mag this year. I picked up a brand new Leupold M8 6x42, that retails for $559, for $249. I need to get a few more rounds down the bore so I can work up a nice load for it. I'm loading Sierra 225 spitzers over W748 with Rem 9 1/2M primers in R-P cases. groups are about 1.5" @ 100 yards. I can do better though.

I like 748 in the 350, better than the 4320 I was using.. I shot nine rounds at 200 and had five in under 1" Do not let anyone tell you that this is a short range gun! This will be my bear gun this year, and cow elk gun this year. I'm going to give the 9/12M a try since you cant get federal anymore. Best of luck with you 350 this fall.

With powder so spendy and somewhat short handed supply, I'm trying to use as much of one powder as I can.

I'd be happy with 1.5" groups, but the trigger on my Ruger leaves something to be desired. I'm pretty happy with the Dayton Traister I put on my .280, I will be ordering one for my .350.

The day that I was sighting mine in, I was flinching pretty bad. My shoulder was really sore from shooting in a match the day before that included 64 rounds of .30-06 from my M1 Garand, and 16 slugs and 48 field loads from my 12 gauge. I was pretty bruised up.

I have not tried the 225 sierra's. The guy I bought my rifle form said that they did not work well in this rifle so I beded the rifle and could not get the 250 hot-cor's that shot so well before to shoot so i tried the 225 TSX first three shot group was 1.625" @200, works for me. I added a limbsaver recoil pad and that took all the pain out if the rifle, I'm good for 20+rounds off the bench, and I have been a real recoil sensitive so that says allot for the recoil pad on a 8lb 1oz FULLY LOADED rifle.

I've got a limbsaver pad for my gun as well, I haven't installed it yet though. I'm refinishing a rather nice Baikal O/U for a friend and its next on my list. Its looking like the rain has stopped today, so I might get a little range time. Thats the beauty of having a range out your front door.

I couldn't get the Barnes TSX to group even close to Noslers in my .25-06 and just decided they are too expensive to be testing out when I've had such good luck with Nosler. I'm pretty sure my Ruger has a long throat and they don't do well with that.

I'm going to N Quebec for a caribou hunt this fall, late Sept. It's a good year to do this for me as I had a bull elk tag in a controlled hunt unit last fall and can't put in for bull again until next year. I'll put in for cow elk though.

I can get two caribou if desired, and hoping to get at least one wall-hanger. Sure want to bring home a bunch of meat. Many years ago I had a caribou steak in Yellowknife, NT, and it was really good. Freezer space might be a problem if I get two caribou, a cow elk, a mule deer, and an antelope!

I am really liking these Sierras for now, I'm going to try out the nosler partitions, if they don't work, I'll give the TSX a try. I have yet to be let down by Nosler in any of their bullets. I wish the Accubond worked in the .350, that bullet destroys deer.
