Yes...Fairbanks area. Things are looking up though. Supposed to hit +5 by Wednesday! In all honesty, it does get a little old after awhile.

I just wish it would quit snowing for one day . . . . . . . . . No wait, it's not supposed to snow tomorrow (and the next four days) while I'm at work. At least I won't have to worry about running the snow blower after I get home about 19:30 . . . . . . . . . In the dark.

There's a good 16-18 inches accumulation since the ground was bare two 1/2-three weeks ago. Not like last year where I never had to use the snow blower and only shoveled the shop pad and sidewalk maybe 6 times.

At least I got to try out the new contraption.

I know it looks crude but it's the parts of three lawn tractors (all free) put together. Like Johnny Cash's Cadillac only this is a Forchevodge. Best of all it works extremely well and I get to ride it.

Planned on going deer hunting this morning but when the alarm went of it was raining hard. I hit the snooze alarm twice but the rain never let up. My deer stand is dry and heated but I would have been soaking wet by the time I got in it. Turned off clock an pulled up the covers. I got up when the auto coffee maker dinged.

When I consider my physical condition (mental?) and your deer hunting criteria, our militia may be in trouble, suppose??

That is one fine looking machine, RJ. You are pretty handy!

We've been hovering in the single-digit F's for about a week. So, yesterday, first ice fishing day of the season, with 4"-6" of ice. We did well on the rainbows, and a few perch that were too small. One short pole got drug in by a big fish, then it swam over into the line from the pole in the next hole over, and both pole and fish were recovered! The beers were slushing up, so we had to switch to whiskey! The dogs always have fun.

When you have to insulate the beer to keep it from freezing - I'm headed for warmer weather!

Yep, Olde Bob had a knack for making something out of nothing didn't he!!

I had serious doubts when I firsr tried it out. It was all held together with vice-grips until it proved it's worth and boy does it ever hog the snow!!!

Dang Shawn, you can buy frozen fish at the market a lot easier than what I see there. I guess FUN is spelled different in each region. I used to love colder weather but due to age and arthritis it just plain hurts me now. I have become a big fan of spring and fall. Recoil's snow blower looks like something a northern BUBBA would design but if it gets it off your lawn and onto the neighbors I guess it is worth it.

Well, you're right, jodum. We have to make fun up wherever we live. My frozen fish is fresh! The trout is best when filleted and smoked, but I make a mean white-sauce/garlic/mushroom/caper pasta dish with BBQ'd trout flaked off the bones.

kdub and Mike, I like that warm fishing too; it just costs more!

The cold weather fishing is manageable. Layers, and if any wind, balaclava & wool scarf. The guy on the left in my previous photo is wearing an electric-heated jacket, powered by his cordless drill battery.

I went out about 11 am today, thermom reading 12F. Got a suntan on my face, and brought home an 18.5" lunker rainbow with some 1"-3" perch in its belly.

Mornin' fellas!!!!

Well all said and done we received 20" on the mountain. It snowed for 26 hours here, and then the temp fell, and avg'd. about 20* during the day, and 3 at night. Add to that the 25-30 mph wind, and it was cold. We kept that old Federal stove stoked, and the house stayed about 70 on the main floor, but a very warm 75 upstairs!!!! Oh the difficulties of an open floorplan design....lol

Yesterday brought another 5" storm of dry powder. So now overall we have had a total of 35* inches in the side of the mountain here in Madison. It's funny, we are on a western slope, at about 1200 feet...not terribly high in elevation, but just right for the weather to come across the valley and stall here.

The ski areas are ramping up for a late start to the season, but all is well in their world.

I've noticed alot of game track in the snow so far, so for christmas the Mrs gave me a game camera to mount on the tree in the front to see if we can catch 'em all on pictures.

Well stay warn fellas, keep hooking those fish. You'll never see me out on a frozen lake....no way. I'll crawl into burning structures, but no ice for me thank you!

It finally got cold enough here to hang a deer overnight. So, to celebrate that occasion, I put an arrow through a little button buck
catch 22 likes this.
