Looking for a place to hunt Axis deer in Texas. Email me through the forum (just click on my user name) if you have a recommendation on a ranch or with an outfitter you have used.

Axis , and others, free ranging

Mike, it is some years now since we visited this ranch but although we were there at the wrong time and the only people on the ranch, the service we had was excellent. I was looking for a good axis and saw hundreds, but non of the decent stags where in hard antler at the time and I am not into shooting these fabulous creatures in velvet.
The ranch is called Rio Bonito and is near Junction, Texas it is huge, 25 miles square and we saw a lot of axis during our three day stay, also sika, aoudad, wild pigs and normal Texas wildlife. Check to make sure you are there at the right time for the majority of animals to be in hard antler before booking, wherever you go.
Facinating area, accomodation and a very friendly welcome.
I believe it is still under the same management. The hunting agency 1A Hunting in Texas did our booking for us.
As I said , it is some time since we were there, so check it out well before any decision.
They do have a fenced area as well, but like shooting pigs in a barrel. All of the axis we saw were free ranging.
