I am new to this forum and just getting back into shooting after a Long time off. I still have all of my reloading equiptment and plan to put it to good use in my center fire firearms. However, I have decided to put more time into rimfires now. I went to a gunshop the other day and saw a nice looking used Marlin 39A. It brought back a lot of old memories from the 1950's. I decided I had to have this one. I feel just like I did when my Dad gave me my first rifle. It was a Remington M 572 pump .22. I can't wait now to take the 39A to the range. A friend had one in 1957 and we used to plink a lot. Then I went in the Marines and became a rifle range instructor. When I got out I stayed with shooting sports until about 10 years ago. Now I hope to stay active in shooting until I go through the Pearly Gates.

According to the serial number my rifle was made in 1976. The clerk at the gunshop where I bought this rifle just told me (2 days after I bought it) that this is only the second 39 A he has had come through this gunshop in 5 years. I still have not shot it but am anxious to take it to the range next week.

Welcome to the forum, and to the enlightened club of old 39A shooters!:)

Mine's a 1948, too, picked up a few years ago dirt-cheap because it was drilled and tapped and had a broken buttplate, neither of which upset me one bit. It is one of the sweetest .22 shooting experiences a fellow can have!
