I was at my local sporting goods store and seen this federal fusion ammo. I look up some peoples reviews online and they all seemed good. I shoot a remington model four in .270win. for whitetail and usually use 130gr. bullet. I am just a little frightened about the price as it is pretty cheap. Am i getting a cheap shell or are they really quality?

I shoot them out of my 270 wsm and they shoot great. One thing I will point out is when they first came out they had red around the primer as if they were made along side the federal premium ammunition, and the box I bought last week had blue around the primer as if came from the "less premium" line. I have not shot any of the new ones yet, but the older ones gave me 1" group at 100 yrds. I have never been able to shoot a whitetail with them but the coyotes that crossed my path while whitetail hunting have not been very fond of them...

Saskdeer,

The Fusion bullet is essentially a bonded core that has proven to provide excellent terminal performance, at a reasonable price. The only real concern would be if they shoot accurately from your gun. Buy a box or two, since they don't cost too much, and see what you get. For deer hunting, accuracy is 90% of the equation anyway, since there is hardly a 130gr .277" bullet made these days that won't harvest one cleanly.

shot well for me...although mine was an 06..the 165 grn fusion was the sweet rnd that made it so ,i wasn t embarrassed to shoot with the real riflemen at the gun range..it was just the right rnd for my rifle..moa was easy..i have put a rnd in same hole at the hundred..ragged hole
that is.:)..
did the job well on impact too..thats pretty well in the past.can t hold back father time an mother nature..

I've not got a lot of experience with the Fusion loads. But, I did buy Fusions for a new Hawkeye rifle and shot them first from that rifle at the range. Very quickly I was getting groups well under MOA. Needless to say, I stopped experimenting at that point and simply finished sighting it in to be hunt ready with that load. The one deer I shot with the load showed excellent performance with full penetration and a quarter sized exit hole. I have purchased it in other chamberings now and would not hesitate to use it in any of my rifles for deer-sized game after ensuring it shot well. I've read about, but not seen a load for the .35 Whelen that's supposed to be a 180gr Fusion. Although lighter than I normally use in my Whelen(s), I'd really like to try it for deer hunting when it's available.

In 2006 I tried 140 grain Fusion ammo in my then new 7mm-08. It turned out to be the most accurate of 4 different factory rounds so I have been using it as my deer hunting ammo of choice. Have shot 5 whitetails with it (all inside 100 yards). None needed a 2nd shot. All were heart/lung shots and the blood trails were VERY easy to follow. All of the deer expired within 30-75 yards. I like Fusion and will use it until I expend the few rounds I have left then will handload for that rifle.

i can't speak for other calibers in the fussion but it is the bullet of choice in .243 for me. i have yet to recover one even after a shoulder shot. i have had exit holes every time but the furthest shot was about 110 yrds through ribs each side. the shoulder shots, one up close around 40 yrds was done the first year i used them on a large doe to see if the bullet would hold together, it did.
