Baikal MP 94 Express O & U Peep Sight

Registered Users do not see the above ad.

Hello, does anyone know what peep sights are available to fit a Baikal MP 94 O & U Double rifle without gunsmithing?
The rifle has a dove tail but the receiver isn't drilled and tapped. I was wanting to install a Ghost Ring or Williams peep for "close in" shots at Sambar deer in heavy dogwood. There's not much detailed info about this rifle on the net or with local gunsmiths.

Any recommendations?

I bought some Millet rings and put a low powered scope on mine. Do the express sights that are on it not look good to you?

Hi Tnhunter,

thanks for the reply, I actually haven't picked up the rifle yet (next Saturday week) but have been trying to source a peep before I go to the range.

I thought about fitting a low power scope (2 X 7 or 1.5 X 5), but think that a peep sight will better suit the task.

I hunt in very thick dogwood (thick patchy bush) dotted with tree's & saplings where the Sambar like to bed down, I believe that the scope rail (dove tails) are 3/8 similar to rimfire rifles, so may be able to fit a decent .22 peep to it? The other option is to drill and tap the receiver which is an easier fix as Midway don't produce an off the shelf peep for this rifle.

I normally hunt with a 30.06 Tikka T3 Lite (scoped 3 X 9) which I love to use and have had some luck with, but reckon that the Baikal will have the edge when a running shot presents itself (especially with that extra quick follow up shot). How do you find your Baikal and have you ever altered the POI with the barrel adjustment to suit reloads etc?

Whoops - forgot to mention the original Baikal open sights which look pretty good but I prefer a peep, as for me they're more accurate. I also have access to a red dot scope (which I will fit to see how it goes), but want the rifle to be more traditional.

I believe the rails are a bit wider than the ones typically found on .22s, but Millet does make the correct size to fit rings to it. I have not messed with changing the POI from the barrels on mine and to tell the truth, I never even fired it with the irons, preferring a scope (for my older eyes) from the start. The POI for both barrels was within about 2" at 50 yards which was perfectly satisfactory for my needs. Of course on longer shots, the shooter will still have an accurate 1st shot, with only the 2nd (second barrel) being off more the farther out the shot is.

Good Luck!

Looks as though I'll have to wait to pick up the rifle and then find a peep to custom fit it. I looked at Midway and they had flat based Ghost Ring peeps (drill and tap), I reckon that will have to do. I'll shoot the rifle with open sights before fitting the peep, It'll be interesting to see how they shoot. I'll let you know how I go down the range.

It's a shame that the barrels don't shoot a bit tighter. I would have expected just over 1 inch at 100 yards, but Sambar are a big deer (similar to an Elk in size) and so far I've taken shots between 30 - 80 meters, so a 2 inch variation between barrels shouldn't be a big problem for a shoulder hit.
