I like hunting the open steep river slopes on the North Fork of the Clearwater over here in Idaho in the spring. When the black bear start looking for their first meals they seem to like these slopes.
Usually any rifle good for deer works. I like either my old 8mm Rem mag or the new 280 I just picked up for those long accross the canyon shots. The shorter ranged lever actions work well within their distance envelopes. I've killed a bunch with the 41 and 44 mag revolvers and that also works well within the distances a shooter can work.
Good luck on your hunt and let us know how it comes out.
