The wife boys and my self are leaving at o dark thirty in the morning for a family hunting trip. We are going to the Tillamook National Forest (Wilson) unit for the last five days of Black tail season. The wife and I both have tags, we were hoping to have gotten one already, but no such luck The deer hunting in my neck of the woods has been real poor the last four years. spot we are trying a new area. My buddy will meet us at our camping spot on Monday as he has to work Sunday night. Lets hope for some big ones!

Good luck with your hunt, Black Tail. I'm sure you and your family will enjoy the hunt even if you come up empty. A family jaunt like that is priceless.

So, did you get anything? Hunting was pretty sour down here in the central Cascades. I have a friend who is a retired Lane Co. Sheriff's Deputy. He still works Search and Rescue and also volunteers with ODFW. He said that Cougar and Bear fawn kills are getting out of hand all through the Cascades since the dog hunting ban. Oakridge, 35 miles east of us is really bad.

The Game People are reporting the problem to the state , but it's being ignored. Since the state caters to the Multnomah County Yuppies , who control the state. They get what THEY want.

WE did not get anything but we had a good time. We camped close to where the Salmonberry rive and the Nehalem river meet. Black tail hunting the last couple years has been real poor, hope that changes real soon.

I saw more bucks this year than in any of the previous 5 that I've hunted the Olympics. Four three points and two forkhorns; problem is, until the last forkhorn, I could never get a shot, tho I almost nailed a nice 3x3 with the GMC! Took a nice little forkhorn during the last 4 days of the western Warshinton split season, one shot from the 75 year old .250 and it was time to get out the Bark River. Cooked one of the back straps the other nite, cut into inch thick slices, peppered it, quickly browned, then deglazed the pan with sherry, added beef stock and reduced that by half, then added raisons, finally a pat of butter, then set the slices back in it to warm. It was fork tender!
