I Think I found my honey hole for when bear season opens up. Came nose-to-nose with what might be a local record (at least) black bear this weekend. Only a few hundred yards later a second non-record setting bruin. One of the guys I was hiking with ran into 6 bears having a scrap on the way out and came running back wanting an armed escort out. we also saw a convoy of Fish and Game trucks hauling an empty tube trap out of the area. we didn't see them arrive but one has to wonder if they were dropping off yet another bear in the area. looks lke it will be a fine season in my neck of the woods. the dear and elk were thick in there too. I might just spend all fall in the same meadow. I'll be back hoping for a shot at the big boy I saw for sure.

Good luck Helix! Due to snow & rain, bear baiters here are having trouble getting out to set bait in time to get bears in, before seasons close, due to closed Forest Service roads. I had some bear sausage 'brats' out ice fishing this last winter that a friend had made, and hope he gets another one this year!
