Scope Rings Height?

Registered Users do not see the above ad.

I want to put Leupold quick release bases & rings on my new Rem 700 Mtn LSS. The scope will be a Burris 3-9x40MM Fullfield II.

Should I get the "Medium" height rings, or will the "Low" height fit w/40MM scope?

Thanks

The first thing I would tell you is NOT to use the Leupold rings/bases. I've heard a lot of bad things about them recently... specifically having to do with using them on anything of about a .30-06 or higher cartridge. I've been hearing that they are slipping out of the bases during recoil. Your results may vary, but that's not something I'd be willing to mess with.

Second thing is that as far as heights go, you really just need to figure out which rings/bases you want, then call or email the manufacturer and let them tell you what size you need. Personally, for your mountin rifle, I'd go with a set of Talley lightweight rings. They are very high quality, and you can get them in quick release as well. Get a set of the cross-slot doevetailed bases, and the quick release rings and you're set. Lightweight rings/bases that have a zero chance of slipping because of the cross slots in the bases. Also, the cross slots make it that much easier to dismount and remount your scope w/out losing your zero at all.

good luck..

I know with Leupold, they have a product selection guide for what rings, mounts etc. to get for each rifle and Leupold Scope combination. Just pick one of their 3-9x40mm scopes and you should be good to go.

I've never tried their quick release rings, so I can't comment on what WGM said. Maybe, Talley and the others have a similar online system.

I've always used Leupold bases & rings and have never had any problems whatsoever with them.

I checked out Leupold's product selection guide and it recommended "medium" rings for 40MM scopes. Thanks for the reference.

I ordered a set of QRW (quick release weaver style) basses and rings. The bases have the cross bar cut into them and the rings have matching cross bar that fits down into that of the bases.

I read all the customer ratings notes out on Midway and this setup got very high reviews.

I want to be able to use one scope for hunting and then a target scope for at the range. This set up will allow me to switch scopes with a minimum of fuss.

Thanks
