Bud there used to be some grip adapters for those kind of guns that came up around the slide and allowed the use of a scope that sat above the slide and still allowed you to manipulate the slide and cartridges to eject.
Don't see any of those advertised anymore, but did install a few back in the 70's. Other than that I'd simply suggest getting one of the modern 22 semi's such as a Ruger that's already drilled and tapped and not devalue one of those beautiful old Colts by drilling and tapping it.
Thanks for the input, Bob. I use an Aimtech grip mount on my 1911 which works fine, but I've never seen anything for the Woodsman, new or used. It's not a collector's item but I still don't care to bore holes in it.
I did once sketch up a dural mount that would clamp on the barrel, to which a Weaver-style base could be screwed. But not having a milling machine put an end to my dreaming.
I have a colt woodsman MT 3rd series and also looking to mount a red dot with no drilling.
My friend has access to machine shop at work. Would like to help.
